What is this Studio about?

This year, 10 Colleges of Architecture as a part of their Studio Incentive for the participation in Saint-Gobain Transparence 19.0, come together for a collaborative studio with Ar Bijal Parikh & Ar. Swati Ray from Sandeep Shikhare Architects for an exciting journey of shared learning! Embrace innovation and growth in this transformative experience, we can’t wait for you to come out of this studio with flying colours. The Collaborative Studio is an innovative endeavour that bridges the gap between Students, Faculty, and Practitioners through a unified online platform. With Ethos as the facilitator, this 8-week-long digital collaboration, conducted once a week, offers a unique opportunity for one student from each college to present their assignments and engage in insightful discussions with mentors. 10 Colleges of Architecture across India come together as this Collaborative Studio has been provided to them as a Studio Incentive for taking part in Saint-Gobain Transparence 18.0. Additionally, the studio introduces a dynamic Design Mela, resembling a pre-external jury, where every student receives invaluable feedback and critique from external faculties representing different colleges on board. This interactive and inclusive approach fosters unparalleled learning and growth for all participants, making it a truly transformative experience.

Bijal Parikh

Architect at Sandeep Shikhare Architects

Bijal Parikh is an architect who exemplifies a harmonious blend of old-school values and modern approaches in her work. Post her Master’s in Architecture from Glasgow School of Art, Scotland in 2011 and her internship days with Architect Bijoy Jain, her passion for Sustainability was further reinforced by associating with Ar. Sandeep Shikre while working at Sandeep Shikre Architects. Bijal believes sustainability is a responsibility towards the environment, especially Mother Earth. She is deeply committed to incorporating sustainable practices and innovative design solutions in all the projects she has worked on. She has been a pivotal part of various committees such as the Manual of Architectural Practice, Manual of Universal Accessibility (ongoing), and updating of IBEEPS and ECSBS codes for the building envelope chapter. Her continued passion and enthusiasm for sustainable design made her an IGBC AP, and she was recognised for her achievement by winning IGL 2021 competition. Her other interests include plant propagation, trekking, paper-cut art, and graphic design. A print studio in Glasgow, Scotland, published her artworks, which sold several copies across the UK.

Swati Ray

Architect at Sandeep Shikhare Architects

After graduating from the University of New South Wales, Australia with a master’s in architectural design, Swati Ray commenced her journey as a professional in 1994. For the past 30 years, she has worked in the industry on a variety of projects with well-established design firms. Swati’s varied experience is spread across design typologies ranging from educational institutions, commercial buildings, IT campuses, Retail Malls and Industrial Architecture. Her design philosophy is encompassed in the Benjamin Franklin’s maxim “If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins” She believes that the aesthetics of a building are dialectical but for it to be defined as successful architecture it must be sensitive in every way –to the climate, to its users and its context- a reinvention of the site itself. Her interests include sketching, travelling and reading. She has been associated with SSA for the past two years and teaches Architectural design as a visiting faculty.
