Richa Bose | Climate Responsive Design

Day 1: 19th January 2021, Tue | 11 AM

Architect Richa Bose (Angirish) graduated from M.S. University in the year 1996, Baroda. She has worked extensively in the earthquake-affected Latur with Rajendra & Rupal Desai, with, Ar Geeta Vaidyanathan at Development Alternatives (Jhansi), designing/constructing using appropriate and local technologies; she was also actively involved in forming mason groups into Guilds, aiding them with skill up-gradation. She has worked with some of the well-known architects like – Sumit Ghosh (New Delhi), Prof. Ar. K.T. Ravindran (New Delhi) and with conservation specialist Mr. Biswadeep Sen (at Caltech India Kolkata). Practising together as Associates since 2012 with Architect Anubha Fatehpuria, in Kolkata, their Architectural as well as Interior Designs reflect a merging of the Contemporary with the Regional - also being Environment conscious and Cost-effective. Their firm also has been the recipient of - Jury commendation for Living Places – retail spaces – Interior Design in 2018 – 3rd edition of Saint Gobain and the Economic Times Smart Green awards.

Kamal Chawla | Disaster Resilient Habitat

Day 1: 19th January 2021, Tue | 12 PM

Kamal Chawla is an architect with over 10 years of experience in humanitarian sector. Over these years, he has worked on several post-disaster reconstruction projects across Indian subcontinent, engaging with the affected communities, building with participatory design approach. He has also been part of various research programmes, studying indigenous architecture and promoting community innovation. Kamal works with a passion of exploring relationships between nature, culture, architecture and future. It is this quest that drives him to work in diverse settings. Pursuing a holistic approach for architectural design responding to the needs of the users and the context, Kamal focusses on designing user-centric and resilient built-environments including housing, educational environments, healthcare facilities and community spaces.

Suprio Bhatacharjee | Empathy and Architecture

Day 2: 20th January 2021, Wed | 11 AM

Suprio Bhattacharjee is an Architect, Writer/Critic and Pedagogue. He has taught at various architecture schools in Mumbai while maintaining his own practice during his time in that city, prior to his move to Chennai in late-2018, where he now serves as Studio Director at architectureRED. He is a Guest Architecture Critic for the DOMUS India magazine and his writings have appeared in publications such as TEKTON and INside amongst others. Besides his interest in architecture and building culture, he enjoys immersive gazes at trees, blooms, butterflies, landscapes and the wilderness – besides bearing a lifelong obsession with aviation and sci-fi. Overcast skies and introspective, atmospheric music allow him moments of quiet introspection within the cacophony of our turbulent present.

Nikita Verma | Climate Resilient Cities

Day 2: 20th January 2021, Wed | 12 PM

Nikita is a graduate in architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi and post-graduate with Masters in Urban Studies from the Bauhaus University, Germany. She has been working in the architecture and urbanism field for four years now, currently working on research projects related to sustainable urban development, urban climate resilience and an architect specializing in hill side built environments. She has worked in India, Germany, Slovenia, Spain and Russia on projects across the globe with inter-disciplinary teams and multinational organizations.

Gaurav Sanghavi | Neighbourhood and its context on Design

Day 3: 21st January 2021, Thur | 11 AM

An innovator and motivator to the team, Ar. Gaurav Sanghavi leads conceptualisation and project planning at Pentaspace, of which he is a co-founder. His vision and astute understanding of exterior and interior design concepts have earned him accolades in architectural excellence and several national awards by renowned architects like Ar. Charles Chorea, Ar. Hafeez Contractor and Ar. B.V. Joshi. A graduate from Academy of Architecture, Mumbai with a degree in Business Management from NMIMS, Mumbai, Ar. Gaurav Sanghavi brings a rare combination of creative competence and managerial prudence to the business.

B L Manjunath | Designing with Steel

Day 3: 21st January 2021, Thur | 12 PM

B L Manjunath completed his Master of Engineering (Civil) & Bachelors of Engineering Civil from University of Bangalore(1985)- University Vishveshwariah College of Engineering. His 25+ years of Work Experience in Structural Engineering Design, Construction and Management include Design and Detailing using Specialized Techniques for Educational Institutions, Material Handling Plants in Thermal Stations, Industrial Buildings, Townships, Commercial Complexes, Hotels, Group Housing/Apartments, Residential Bungalows, Resorts etc. He believes in deciphering the seed of the structural system while designing and exploring materials to their full potential considering their maximum stretchable bandwidth before failure; Learning structures from nature and from everything around us. His vision for the role of engineering in design and of design in engineering is shaped by Humanistic, rather than simply technical principles.
