Site Planning and Natural Factors
This self-paced course by Ar Devayani Deshmukh Upasani deals with the understanding of natural features/layers which form an integral part of site analysis and thus, site planning.
Site planning is one of the most underestimated but important steps in the process of architectural design which when done systematically and sensitively enables one to create an architectural intervention which is unique, sensitive and rooted to its context. Of the various layers involved in site planning the study of the natural aspects/layers during site analysis is one of the most important steps towards a more informed process of site planning. Understanding and analysing these natural features to understand the site is imperative requirement for us as architects to mitigate the negative impacts of rapid globalization and urbanization which is leading to large scale disaster.
The course intends to study in detail the various natural aspects/layers involved in site analysis which is an integral part of site planning process with the intention of finally aiming to create an architectural design/intervention which is unique, sensitive and rooted to its context.
Join this course and accomplish the key objectives
Understanding the method of analyzing the various natural layers at both regional or town planning scale as well as for smaller site plans
Formulating solutions regarding siting of various functions based on the overlap of the clues from the analysis of the various natural layers
Enabling the students to look at the existing architectural interventions by masters in a much more informed fashion
The entire course is divided into 8 modules. Every module is divided into multiple short lectures of 7-15 minutes. Modules consist of assignments, MCQs, additional resources and interactive material that will enrich the student’s learning experience.
The first module of the course elaborates on the broader understanding of various aspects and process of site planning. The subsequent modules comprise of detailed discussion on natural layers/aspects which are an integral part of site analysis and impact site planning. At the end of each module the participants can take back the understanding and apply it to their own site which will enable them to have a much more informed result in terms of the site plan and further the design intervention.
